A 5-night, 4-day fly fishing trip package.
You've never held a fly rod. You might not even know what "casting a line" really means. And yet, something about this is calling you. This trip exists for that person.
Five nights, four days of wading, floating and anchored boat fishing, with access to public and private rivers and lakes near Río Pico, in the heart of Chubut. La Loma is a lodge in the middle of nowhere, and that's the whole point: no spa, no scenic flights to distract you from what you came here to do. What you'll find instead is a guide who won't take you to the water expecting you to already know — he'll actually teach you, for real, from the first knot to the first cast that lands right. It's not a courtesy before the fishing starts. It's the whole trip.
Each day brings a different technique depending on the water's conditions: the float, where the rower has your back while you find your rhythm, and wading, which asks you to stand in the river and read it with your own eyes, guide right beside you at every step — that's where the real challenge lives, and where you learn the most. Beyond these two, we also offer anchored boat fishing on the area's lakes; which one makes sense depends on the specific lake or river and the season, so this itinerary is a starting point, not a fixed mold, and we'll finish shaping it together when we put your program together. The program comes with a guide every single day, no exceptions, because that's what this is about: finally giving you the chance to dive into that first experience, with someone right there who knows how to make it count.
**We pick you up at Esquel airport and take you straight to the lodge. That same afternoon, before you get your feet wet, there's a casting session on dry land — your first contact with the rod, without the pressure of the water just yet.
Nights close with home-style cooking (red meat, white meat, pasta, vegetables, fruit), one drink included per meal, and one Patagonian night with spit-roasted lamb, homemade empanadas, and flan.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival at the lodge
After a three-hour drive through open Patagonian steppe, you reach the lodge as the light starts to fade. An artisanal appetizer platter, a good aperitif, and dinner with wine and dessert are waiting — or, if the timing works, head out to try the water that same afternoon before sitting down to eat.
Day 2
Fishing · With instructor · Float
We start with the float, the most forgiving way to build confidence: the rower does much of the work while you focus on the cast, covering far more water than you could on foot — the Nilson River, the Pampa River, Lake Vintter, or one of the other lakes, depending on what the guide picks that week. Depending on conditions and the guide's judgment, this can also turn into an anchored boat fishing day on one of the area's lakes. This is where real instruction starts: casting, reading the water, before results come into it. Back at the lodge: breakfast before heading out, lunch by the water or packed to go, an afternoon snack, and a full dinner with an appetizer platter, wine and dessert.
Day 3
Fishing · With instructor · Float
A second day of floating, with your cast already more settled — it shows, even with the rower still doing much of the work. Same rhythm of meals: breakfast, lunch by the water or packed to go, an afternoon snack, and dinner with appetizers, wine and dessert.
Day 4
Fishing · With instructor · Wading
We close with wading: it puts you right in the current, standing in the river, reading the water step by step, in stretches only reachable on foot — it could be the Pico River, Píldoras Creek, or one of the nearby lakes, depending on how the week is fishing. It's the most demanding step, and the ideal close after two days building up the cast. Same meals as previous days.
Day 5
Fishing · Guided · Float
You choose the last day of fishing — back to floating, another round of wading, or closing the week with anchored boat fishing, conditions permitting. It's the day where everything you've learned really shows. Same meals as previous days.
Day 6
Departure from the lodge
One last breakfast with the week's best stories still fresh, a packed meal for the road, and departure from La Loma Lodge toward Esquel.
